I wanted to share how my recent barefoot running adventure in my Vibram FiveFingers is going and how I’m liking them. I also picked up some new headphones so I could listen to music while I run. On my playlist right now is Daft Punk, Justice, Ronald Jenkees and We Are Scientists.

If you’re interested in learning more about barefoot running check out the book: Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. I haven’t read it yet, but I’ve only heard great things about it.
Can you barefoot run on a treadmill? If so, does that go against the whole natural running thing or is it fine? I am very interested in switching… I just invested like 130 bucks in some really nice cross trainers so that would be a terrible waste, but if this is the way to go I definitely want to try it out.

How long ago did you buy the shoes? I would say take them back (if you can) and invest the $75-$85 in the Vibrams. I don’t think it matters, treadmill or outside, so long as your using your bodies natural strength. But like I’ve read elsewhere, I would recommend easing in to it. Overall though I think it IS the way to go. Let me know what you decide.
I love barefoot running – I’ve been a fan of Nike Frees since they originally came out. I’ve had 3.0s and also 7.0s, but nothing can beat the 3s. I’d love to give the Vibrams a try, but it’d take me a little while to splurge on them.
How do you like those new in-ear headphones? I actually bought the knock-offs online at dealexteme.com (http://dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.18500) I’d be interested to hear what you think of them in comparison.

I really recommend running on treadmill with these first to warm up. the nike free’s are great too so either shoe is good but it depends on what you are looking for. There’s a great comparison of both of them here:

Just from my own personal experience, I don’t recommend running on the treadmill with the F5Vs (at least at first). I tried it for the first time last night at the gym and it wasn’t nearly as comfortable as when I run outside. I would recommend starting off running in the grass to get warmed up. The soft ground will be easier on your legs.
